The Best of Me: Dawson moved in with a guy named Tuck

We all have a movie that we envy so much that saying, I've seen that fifty times in some cases, really isn't an exaggeration. My all time favorite movie that I've watched so many times and could still watch so many more times is The Best of Me. The Best of Me is a romantic drama film directed by Michael Hoffman and written by Will Fetters and J. Mills Goodloe. The film was released on October 17, 2014. Starring in The Best of Me, the high school sweethearts, is Amanda, played by Michelle Monaghan and Dawson, played by James Marsden. This movie is based on the novel written by Nicholas Sparks. The budget of this romantic drama film is 26 million dollars.

I'm not a big movie buff but when The Best of Me came out, I went to see it in theatres not just one time, but three times. Shortly after the movie came out on DVD, sure enough I went and bought it. The Best of Me is a tearjerker but also a movie that makes you smile and warms your heart. In the beginning of the film we are introduced to Dawson. Dawson works on an oil rig and one day almost lost his life due to an explosion that had occurred. While in the hospital Dawson is told that he is lucky to be alive and he believed so as well. Dawson comes from a violent and threatening family. The town fears the Coles because of their terrible and criminal like behavior. When Dawson was in high school he lived a very isolated life and had decided to leave his home. He didn't like his father and quite frankly, his father didn't like him. Dawson moved in with a guy named Tuck, who had found Dawson in his garage one night and allowed him to come stay in his house. Tuck had recently lost his wife, so fortunately, this could be good for the both of them.

At the time, Dawson was seeing a girl named Amanda. Dawson and Amanda were the typical high school sweethearts. The Coles being well known around the town, having a terrible reputation, Amanda's parents did not agree with her seeing Dawson. Like usual, the love birds did what they wanted anyway. Dawson and Amanda spent countless hours with Tuck. It's safe to say all three of them created a friendly, caring relationship that would last a lifetime. As their lives continued on and Dawson and Amanda remained in love, Dawson had been sent to prison. Amanda was still very supportive of him and went to visit him each and every day. Sadly, Dawson just knew he wasn't right for Amanda. He saw great potential in her, but not in himself. He neglected Amanda and when she came to visit him in prison, he refused to see her. Tuck continued to stick by her side and help her through this rough time as he remembered what it was like to be in love with someone. After years of Dawson being in prison, Amanda had continued on with her life, getting married, having a child and buying a house.

Amanda was very unhappy with her marriage. She loved her son more than anything but fought with herself everyday on whether to leave her husband or not. She constantly thought about Dawson and how happy he made her. Dawson at this point, was free from prison but moved far from town and began his work on the oil rig, as we learned in the beginning of the film. One day, both Dawson and Amanda receive a call finding out that their dear friend Tuck has passed away. They both go to Tuck's house to pack things up and are astonished when they see each other. They spend a few days together cleaning up and scattering Tucks ashes as requested. It is easy to say that they are still in love with each other. Although Amanda is married, she just can't hold back what she feels for Dawson. After they have a few wonderful days together, Amanda has to return back to her family. Shortly after, Dawson is shot by one of his cousins and coincidentally Amanda's son gets in an accident at the same time and needs a heart transplant. Amanda at the time, doesn't know about Dawson's death, but finds out the next day and is devastated.

Years have gone by since Dawson's death and Amanda has divorced her husband. Amanda learns from her son that it was Dawson's heart her son received as a transplant. Not only does is touch Amanda's heart, but I'm sure it touches the viewer's heart. I know it surely touched mine! This movie is so bittersweet. When leaving the movie theatre I didn't see anyone who was not in tears. This movie is definitely a must see!
